For the Running Mom...

Today my post is dedicated to the hard working moms who still want to stay stylish while they're on the go.
Here are a few tips that will hopefully put you at ease.

My first tip is to have a big, structured, and functional bag. I recommend getting one in a neutral color.  But, if you are all for color, then no one is stopping you. Having a big bag like this can be multifunctional.  It can serve as a purse and a diaper bag, all while it pulls together an outfit.

My next tip is sticking to the basics. Let's be honest, you don't need to look like you're going to a fashion show.  But, at the same time, when you run to the store, we can always throw on something besides sweats. On lazy days the first things I always reach for are a basic tee and some good blue jeans. You can never go wrong with the basics. When you are wanting to play it up you can always add a flannel or cotton button up to layer your look or to tie around your waist.

Look for small details that will dress up an outfit.  For example, on this bag the sides are woven.  Or, on my shirt there are small studs on the collar and pockets. It's all in the details.

Not to repeat myself or anything but... it really is all in the details. Adding simple things like a pair of pearl or diamond studs, winged out eyeliner, and dainty necklaces are the icing to your outfit. You can even layer your necklaces.  Another thing you can add is some polish to those barren nails. I know most moms don't like painting their nails because they feel like it chips instantly.  Go check out your local nail salon and see if they offer gel or shellac nails. If you don't want to go that route you can visit almost any drug store and pick up nail polish press-ons. They stay on surprisingly well.

No matter your style there is always fab footwear out there for you. You can go for a pair of heels but I bet most moms would reach for the flats or boots. I think the most fashionable and realistic pairs of shoes are either loafers like the ones I have on in the picture or some ankle boots. Loafers are always a must in a women's wardrobe, especially because they are so comfortable and the perfect balance of trendy and classic. The boots shown on the right are perfect with a pair of cigarette capris like the pants I'm wearing, or simply roll your favorite skinny jeans just above the end of your ankle boot leaving a bit of skin showing. There is never an excuse for frumpy footwear. Ever. Leave the slippers and tennis shoes at home!

I hope this post and these tips will help improve your wardrobe and mommy uniform!  You have the hardest job in the world.  You might as well do it while looking fantastic.
