Vacationing is so much fun. Life can be so stressful sometimes and it is nice to be able to take a step back to improve yourself, and to spend time with the wonderful people in your life. I feel like sometimes I come back from a trip 38753937 pounds heavier that when I left. Here are some tips to help you avoid that sluggish feeling when you get back home, but that will allow you to still enjoy your time away from home.
Eat clean when you can:
My first tip to healthy vacationing is to eat clean when you can. I know at restaurants you sometimes want the most carb loaded meal or a big juicy burger, WHICH IS FINE!! Especially on vacation! However if your hotel serves breakfast or you are planning your meals, plan to make those meals healthy. Another thing to do is make sure that your snacks throughout the day are healthy. Try and eat lots of fruits and veggies for snacks so you can save your splurge calories for the yummy food when you're eating out.
Find convenient (and fun) ways to exercise:
Try and work out every day. My mom is so good at this when we are on vacation! She wakes up early and takes full advantage of the exercise equipment. If that works for you then AMAZING, and more power to ya! I on the other hand cannot bring myself to doing this on vacation. Instead I look for opportunities during the day to burn a few calories. Sometimes it's something big like spacing out time in my day for a run or a relaxing bike ride with the people I'm with, but sometimes it's as simple as using the stairs instead of the elevator/escalator or walking to my destination instead of driving.
Share your desserts. This is something that I discovered worked wonders for me this past spring when I went to Walt Disney World with my parents. Obviously we wanted to try a little bite of everything so instead of all three of us getting sick and a little more plump off of all the sugary fat we were putting into our bodies, we always shared our desserts.
Early to bed, early to rise:
Don't stay up all night. If you stay up late you will sleep the day away and waste beautiful daylight hours. Trust me, this is a problem I have at home but especially when I'm on vacation. I stay up all night editing pictures because I get so excited to see them and post them. Set a curfew for yourself and stick to it!!
Plan out your food:
My last tip is to plan out your food. If you have a general idea of what you want to eat as well as set times to eat it, you will be less likely to binge eat which is so easy for me when there is good food all around you. I especially recommend this tip to those planning a cruise! Just because there is unlimited food, doesn't mean you need to put it in your body every twenty minutes.
