The Importance of being Thoughtful...

It is the nature of life to experience hardship and come out a more refined person with a broader perspective. Through the events of my life, I quickly learned how to be sensitive to the needs of others, and this is a quality I have been proud of since I was just a little girl. I think that it is so important to look for the needs of others and make an effort in any way we can to help them. Sometimes I will see people at the grocery store or even at school and I will get a prompting to ask if they need help, or even something as simple as give them a genuine compliment to brighten their day. Most of the time it is accepted well but sometimes it isn't... AND THAT IS OKAY!! I've learned that I would rather be shot down trying to make the world a better place than not having the courage to do a kind deed.

However, most of the time I find that the acts of service that means the most is when I serve those who I already have a relationship with. Wither it is serving my family, close friends or even just a friendly acquaintance. I know that it means the most to me personally when I see those around me thinking about me, even it it's "just because" and not serving me for a particular reason.

My favorite thing to do is so simple but it can totally turn someone's day around! I like to shoot them a text, direct message or sent a quick card in the mail or on their door step. I love these cards from Selectionby. They are the cutest, minimalist cards and so affordable too. It doesn't have to be a grand gesture to brighten someone's day.

Green Thing

Dark colors are my jam, especially when it comes to my wardrobe. I love this dark green top because it makes me feel like I have a little bit of color, but it is light and airy enough to wear in the smoldering summer heat.

I moved out of my parent's house yesterday to start my new job that is near the university I will be attending in the fall. I am so excited for the new adventures that are waiting for me down the road. Yet I can't help but reflect on my past 18 years and the many people that have helped me get to this point. Especially my family. I can't wait to see as my life changes, how my style and businesses will evolve with it as well. Stay tuned, and happy Monday!

Day two at Disney... Oh my gosh it was FREEZING!!! And yes, do you see those shorts I was wearing? Even though thinking about how cold with was is making me get goose bumps while I write this, the day was still full of great memories!!

Since it was so cold I feel like we tried to do a lot of the indoor attractions like the exhibits and any of the rides that were inside a building. Any time we went to eat we got something warm and stayed in the restaurant way longer than we should've for being at Disneyland. It still was a great time though. I soaked up every moment of this trip because I knew it was going to be one of the last times that it was just me and my parents, bonding and making memories.

I hope you enjoy my pictures from Disney, day two!!

I am not a big reader, it has never been one of my favorite things. One thing that I always have loved though is children's books. I love looking at all the pictures because I am a visual person. They fascinate me and spark my creativity. I am thankful for the access I have had to books since I was young. They have taught me so much.

My cousin Ruby is collecting 1,000 children's books to donate to a Christian church in Swaziland, Africa. Check out @swaziland_library on Instagram to see how to donate books if you are local to Davis County. She needs $500 to ship the books. If you want to donate to make a difference you can go to the gofundme that has been set up. Make a difference!

Turning the Tables... 2016

Every year at the end of December I try to look back on the events of the previous year to see what has happened in my life. I see who and what have entered my life to make me a better person. I also reflect on the hard things that have made my days a little more difficult. I'm thankful for all of the events, the good and the bad. They help make each year special and each year unique. They make me stronger, more humble, and they teach me how to keep myself happy even in the hard times.

As the new year rolls around instead of making specific new years resolutions I focus on one word that I try to center my year on. I learned this from my amazing drill coach. This year my word to focus on is "renew." If the typical new years resolutions aren't your forte then I challenge you to pick a word for 2016. Have a happy new year!!

While I was in Yellowstone my main focus was to be comfortable since a lot of my time would be spent in the car. I love, love, LOVE this graphic crew neck sweatshirt. I also relied heavily on beanies since I was way to lazy to attempt to do my hair. I especially love the sweatshirts and beanies from Forever 21. They are so trendy, cute, comfy and inexpensive! Check the links below to see all of the cute inventory Forever 21 has!!

Retracing Footsteps...

Over fall break my family and I went to Yellowstone. Our first stop in the park was to see the Grand Tetons and Ole' Faithful. My dad and his family came to Yellowstone a lot when he was growing up. He has always told us stories about his adventures there. When my dad was my age he hiked up the middle peak of the Tetons. I gladly sat and listened to the story with a diet Mountain Dew in one hand, my camera in the other, and no desire to climb that mountain! The other story was that when he went to see Ole' Faithful, he tried to get a shot of the highest point of the geyser and ended up using his whole role of film. That story made me thankful for my digital camera and the ability to delete bad quality pictures without any hassle.

Throughout the morning, the weather was freezing! I was so glad I had this coat from Calvin Klein and I am totally obsessed with the cobalt blue color of it too!

About a month ago (I know, I'm so behind) my mom and I were at lunch for the baby shower of a friend. After lunch we did some shopping at the gift shops attached to the restaurant. While we were shopping around we ran into this amazing man. The conversation we had started out by him complementing the shoes my mom and I were wearing. We then continued talking about design, culture, art and fashion. I learned so much from this man in only a short 15 minutes. I'm thankful for people like him who take everything in, seeing and analyzing every detail, to be able to see the beauty in everything no matter how small or simple. He also gave me career advice that my mom and I were so impressed with. As I finish up my senior year and enjoy it, I also look forward to the future and the beauties and blessings that my experiences will bring into my life.

I got together with my mom's family a couple Sundays ago for a little family reunion at some random park in a small town. My beautiful cousin Mikelle took these amazing pics. She has such a good eye! We always do little shoots together and I am completely obsessed with her and her style.

I think that it is so cool that no matter where you go you can find new places to explore, capture and make memories. Even small town parks when it is 90 degrees. Always keep your artistic eye out for adventure!

Stripes and Horsefly Bites

First day of my family's lake weekend my little brother, little sister and I decided to be adventurous and go paddleboarding and kayaking at the beach in front of the lake house. We started heading out with our heavy boards, awkward paddles and high spirits to find the beach completely marshy and horsefly infested. I was completely covered and I went into survival mode. I threw my board in the water, then ran back through the mud to pull my brother through the mud into the water then back a third time to throw my sister on my back while carrying her kayak and all the paddles. By the time I got myself in the water and all washed off I was COVERED in horsefly bites. These glamorous bites that I acquired are all quite visible in these pictures. I thought about retouching those little bad boys, but what's the fun in that? Don't look too close!

I wore this stripped dress to a graduation celebration for one of my friends to the aquarium. Lately I have been buying a ton of these cute little dresses to get ready for summer. Shorts are great but I would so much rather wear dresses, no matter what time of the year it is but especially in the summer. What is your favorite thing to wear in the summer??

Our first full day here on the east coast we rode the metro to go see the National Zoo. The metro by its self was an adventure but the zoo was exciting as well. Unfortunately most of the exhibits were empty so that was slightly disappointing but we kept saying to one another, "Well, it's free so we can't complain." All around it was a fun day out with the fam;)
I bought this dress right before my trip and no joke, I've already worn it five times. It is so fun, summery, and so so comfortable! I also wore it to church on this trip but that's another post. Thank you so much for reading!

On Tuesday my mom and I took on the city by ourselves while my other siblings stayed with my dad. We had so much fun other than the fact that my camera died the day before. I am kicking myself that I totally spaced even thinking about bringing a battery charger. I kind of wanted to cry because I love taking pictures of everything and then going back and seeing all of the memories. Of course, both of us had our phones and the cameras in smart phones now days are unbelievable, but sadly nothing compares to my big camera. *sniff, sniff*
All of the pictures that I took with my phone I edited with VSCO Cam. I use this daily with my pictures because I love the filters so much. Then you can post the pictures to your "grid." It's like a little photo journal and I love it so much!! To see all of my pictures from DC you can go check out my VSCO. If you have an account and love it as much as me, leave a comment and let me know what your VSCO is so I can go check it out!

Event prep in less than 24 hours...

5/22/2015

Look, it's Prom round two. I got asked to another school's prom at 11:30 the night before. You would think that it would be impossible to pull together, but no. I did it and it was SO MUCH FUN. Seriously!! There are a few things that I did that night before and the morning of that helped pull this glamorous look together. Today I will be sharing those few tips with you to help you if you are ever needing to get ready for an event in less than 24 hours as well!!
Picture

1. The dress/Outfit

THE DRESS! This is the most important part of the look in my opinion. I found this dress ten minutes after I was asked to the dance, the night before prom. I borrowed it from my cousin's cute girlfriend. Previously I had talked to her about borrowing it sometime in the future so I already had the connection. It is good to know your options and either have a few inexpensive dresses in your closet that can aid you at a time of crisis or know what your friends have and what fits so that you can borrow their dresses without causing yourself unneeded stress.

2. Self Tan

Not only do I love to have a little golden glow, but having a little tan just makes everything look better. It makes your skin look more healthy but it also plays a little mind game on our eyes and makes us look more slender (like when you wear all black, yeah you know what I mean.) One thing that I hate about natural tanning by either laying out in the sun, going to a tanning salon, or even just the sun exposure that we get on a daily basis is that it is so harmful to our skin and will make our skin age faster, yikes. My solution to this problem is to constantly wear sunscreen when I'm out in the sun and then when I want a little extra glow I self tan with a product called "Fake Bake". I swear by this product, you don't turn orange anywhere or at anytime and it goes on SO even. I've never had a problem with streaking. You can get it at Ulta but it is so much less expensive if you buy it on Amazon. One day I bought the airbrush version at Ulta for $32 and I came home and used it and my mom wanted some so she went on Amazon and bought it online for $12. So yeah, Amazon is your best bet. Love love love this product, always have a bottle on hand ready to use!

3. Eye Catching Jewelry

Accessories are an important and easy way to make your event outfit flow. I found this necklace at Charming Charlie at 11:00 am, the morning of my event. I always love Charming Charlie when I need event jewelry. I always find exactly what I need. I buy all of my jewelry for my high school dances here!

4. Chic and Simple Hairstyle

Trying to figure out what you are doing with your hair is one of the hardest parts of putting together a stunning look. My advise is to have a chic but simple hairstyle on hand, one that you have found and practiced ahead of time so that if you have a last minute event come up, you don't have to worry about it. I find my inspiration for hair and makeup ideas on Pinterest and then try out the styles so that I know if they work on my hair or not. Go follow me on Pinterest to see what inspires me!

Junior Prom was so much fun and a night that won't be forgotten!

Dress shopping is so much fun but it is always a struggle and I probably stress my poor mom out because I am so picky. We found this dress at the first store we stopped at which made for a triumphant victory. Since 2013 when Pantone came out with emerald being the color of the year, I've been obsessed! What iconic colors have stuck with you? Also, all of my beautiful prom attendees.. leave links to your Instagram prom pics in the comments and let me know what your inspiration was this prom season!

Event Dress on a Budget...

4/3/2015

This post was originally just going to be sharing my look from one of my high school formals but as I started loading all of the pictures on I realized how ridiculously cheap this whole look was and so I wanted to share my strategy so that you could maintain a low budget for an event in 5 easy steps!
Picture

1. Make-up

I know that a lot of people like to have their make-up match their dress when it comes to big events. I am one of those people. I went out and purchased a couple new products for this look. Mainly just a new eyeliner, gold shadow and a nude lip. Now I know that a lot of people like to go get their make-up done, but if your looking for an easy way to save money do it your self. "I can't do my make-up, I suck" is not an excuse. We have this awesome thing in 2015 called youtube. It's a powerful tool, go look up some make-up tutorials and you are all set!! Below are all of the products I used for my make-up look.

2. Hair

Again, do it yourself. Now granted, some people are just gifted with being able to do hair better than others. I always do my own hair because I don't like to give over the power to other people to have full control of how I'm going to look, especially for an important night. If you are going to be doing your hair yourself, my advice to you is practice before. If you need ideas, pintrest and youtube are always my first places to look for inspiration but for this look I was inspired my my "spirit animal" Serena Van Der Woodsen from the tv show Gossip Girl. It's going to sound silly but go google her. You will fall in love. Also don't be afraid to do something unique. Below are my favorite products to guarantee that your style lasts all night.

3. Jewelery

Some dresses need a ton of accessories and there are some that don't need very much at all. There are so many stores that you can get really cute jewelry for so inexpensive.  Whenever I need jewelry for an event my first go to places are Charming Charlie, Forever 21, and H&M. There are tons of stores that have jewelry sections so make sure that you keep your eyes peeled.

4. Shoes

I always try to reuse shoes for events. I am constantly buying shoes when I find ones that I like so if I have some that match my dress, I go ahead and use them. If you have cute shoes that match in your closet, there is no reason to go out and buy new ones.

5. The Dress

Your dress is always going to be the most expensive part of your look. One thing that you can always do to make your overall total a little cheaper is borrow your dress or rent it from a store. Another option for really unique dress is to look at local thrift stores. That is where I found mine. It was only $30. Get online and look up some thrift stores near you and check there before you go out and buy a new dress that would be way more expensive.
I hope that these tips can help you save a few bucks when you are getting ready for your next event. I'm all about saving money where you can. What are your favorite tips and tricks while you are preparing for an event? Leave a comment to let me know!

Football Favorites via Instagram

10/11/2014

Football season has always been a big deal to me. It's not my favorite sport to watch, but I have so many wonderful memories that connect me to the game. My dad, since the time I was little, has taken me to University of Utah football games and it has been such a good bonding experience for us. Then as I got into junior high school, the hot thing on the block was to go to the high school football games and stand around the track with your friends and socialize. Then we would walk to nearby restaurants, eat, and then wait for our parents to pick us up. Now that I'm in high school, games are ten times the fun. Dancing at half time shows, watching my friends play, and cheering them on with all my friends. You could say that football season is definitely a highlight!

Below are my Instagram pictures from some of this years football games. I'm going to be sharing some of my football favorites on apparel, friday night weather hacks and being prepared as a performer but still looking put together after words. I've also linked some of my favorite items through out the post. This is what works for me, I hope you can take bits and pieces to make you football season a little bit sweeter. Enjoy!
Picture
^^Now this isn't a necessity but it make the games more fun. I love being decked out in my LHS attire when I go to games, but my favorite games to get dressed for are Utah games. PINK by Victoria Secret has the cutest college/pro attire. My current item of choice is this Utah boyfriend half zip up hoodie!!
^^From on the sidelines I've learned that the weather is different every game. When it is blazing hot, I go for just a tee shirt and jeans. When it's raining, I always make sure I come prepared with a waterproof jacket that has a hood, or I bring a beanie. A hair elastic is always a good thing to have to be able put my hair up. My natural curl is 10x worse after the rain hits it.
^^When it's cold outside, the game can be miserable to watch. Key word: can. All you have to do is be prepared! My biggest tip is to LAYER!! Under my coat or heavy jacket, I usually wear another jacket that has a hood. This way you keep warm (or you can take off a layer if you get too warm) and it adds cute detail to your outfit. Sometimes depending on how cold, you can get away with just a jacket and a big fuzzy blanket.

I also find it easier to sit through a game if my ears, hands, and feet are warm. For my ears, my go to is a beanie, but I also think that big thick headbands are super cute when your hair is down. For my hands, I love knit touchscreen cloth gloves so that you can still use your phone. To keep my toes warm I usually stick to fuzzy socks and boots. I haven't had to pull out many of these layering tricks yet because the weather has been warm this season. Last season though was freezing, That is where I picked up all these tips.
^^Last but not least is what I wear as a performer. Now this can not only apply to dance/drill teams, but also cheerleaders, marching bands, color guard, ect. Sometimes it can be hard to adapt to the weather when you are performing with a group because everyone is in uniform. But come on, if we weren't in uniform.. that would be a hot mess. The best way I have found to make sure that you are dressed appropriate for the weather but also look cute and put together, is to plan ahead. Still use the layering tips I've suggested above, but make sure that you lay it all out before hand. The worst thing is going back to change after a performance and you've forgot something.

Plus, it's almost time to pull out my sweaters, boots and heavy knits.. my all time favorites! Follow along, @lexiefaithdopp keep tabs on what's new. Happy Saturday everyone!
xoxo, Lexie
